About Me

Hi I’m Joe,

And here is me laughing my way through life in Lululemon lycra as per 97% of the time.

Who is Joe and why on earth should I listen to him?

Okay story time…

As a child I wouldn’t stop moving; balls, rackets, clubs were all my shiny objects and this just progressed as I moved through school.

I ended up focusing all this energy on football and running, playing at a professional standard (just) and running 400m and 800m for my county.

I was as skinny as a rake but in my element and loving the athlete life when BOOM, injury hit.

The injury meant that I was going to be out for at least six months. I decided to pivot and make the most of my time and just reassess my plans and goals. I would qualify as a personal trainer.

I went skipping on to the gym floor with all my athlete enthusiasm, enjoying my sessions, still feeding myself with vat’s of pasta and I even started to get kind of strong (for a skinny footballer).

Six months later I discovered I was far from the trainer’s track that was right for me: I had been derailed by the misleading views, distorted opinions and the myths surrounding  the fitness industry. My fun performance based training sessions had been replaced by painstakingly dull bodybuilder bro splits. This is what I had been told that I needed to do.

Wrong. Big mistake. Over the following year I would be sucked into their obsessive, borderline eating disorder, an imbalanced relationship with nutrition. I tried every fad out there – Keto, intermittent fasting, paleo, you name it. I was walking around looking like an anatomy lesson (ha!) but barely walking. I could just about make it through my dull weights sessions let alone take part in all the sporting activities I loved without almost passing out. I had also managed to alienate myself from most of my friends and family.

Then suddenly one morning all my strength abandoned me. I woke up with my heart beating so fast it felt like it would jump out of my chest. My vision went blurry and within minutes I collapsed on the floor.

I was rushed to hospital and doctors gave me an adrenaline shot. I was put on a drip and had multiple wires attached to my chest. All I could do was lay there and watch my heart rate struggle to hit anywhere near a normal level. After four days in hospital… I made it! In fact I had made it through severe undernutrition (for the 3-4 hours training I had been doing per day) and almost heart failure due to caffeinated fat burning supplements which I had taken the day before.

This was another pivotal moment for me.

I knew I needed to find a simpler, balanced way to enjoy my fitness lifestyle, and life!

This is when I fell in love with functional fitness training! I discovered I am able to aim high and really push my performance levels whilst having fun during my sessions.

In terms of nutrition - IT’S ALL A LIE.

  • I cut out all supplements.

  • I got back to my vats of pasta and even started eating pizza and ice cream whilst others were walking around like the living dead surviving off dust.

  • I doubled down and focused on a couple of key elements.

You know what? My results went through the roof! Not only did I have my energy back to tackle, have fun with and reap the performance gains from my training sessions but I ended up looking the best I ever had.

I have fully embraced this balanced way of living and I am now on a mission to share it with others.

Improving my performance year on year has allowed me to compete and podium in functional fitness competitions, all whilst enjoying life with my friends and family.

Here’s my message to you:
